Award Categories

The Professional Excellence Awards 2024 will recognize outstanding contributions across a range of categories, designed to highlight the diverse areas of influence in the field of quantity surveying.

NB: IQSK Council and Committee members are not eligible for nomination.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS (Applicable to all categories)

  1. Must be in good standing with IQSK.
  2. Must be in good standing with BORAQS (for Fellows and Professional Members).
  3. Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
  4. Must be nominated by an IQSK full member in good standing.
  5. Must not have won in the same category in previous awards.
  6. Adheres to ethical standards and promotes a positive Quantity Surveying professional image.

The categories include:

1. LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

  • Must be a Fellow member of IQSK in good standing.
  • Minimum of twenty (20) years working experience as of 30th October 2024.
  • Must have made an outstanding contribution to the industry and have dedicated a significant amount of resources to champion the profession.
  • Leadership position in BORAQS, APSEA, KEPSA, AAQS, or similar related bodies (excluding IQSK)
  • Significant contributions towards IQSK including financial resources, time or otherwise


2.  OUTSTANDING QS AWARDS IN THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES

a.   Outstanding QS Award – Professionals

This award recognizes a professional member who has shown exemplary performance in Quantity Surveying.

  • Minimum of 7 years as a Professional member of IQSK by 30th October 2024.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the industry, including holding senior roles in projects or consultancy.
  • Engaged in community or sector-specific initiatives, advancing public awareness of the QS profession.
  • Consistent contribution to IQSK events, mentorship programs, and collaboration with other professionals.
  • Should have actively participated in IQSK activities such as training, workshops, or committee leadership.

b.   Outstanding QS Award – Licentiates

This award recognizes a Licentiate member who has exhibited high potential and performance in their professional career.

  • Minimum of 7 years as a Licentiate member of IQSK by 30th October 2024.
  • Must have demonstrated outstanding performance showing growth and adaptability.
  • Should have contributed to the profession through active participation in IQSK activities.
  • Must have exhibited a strong commitment to professional development, pursuing continuous education or certifications.

c.   Outstanding QS Award – Graduates

This award recognizes a Graduate member who has excelled early in their career in Quantity Surveying.

  • Maximum of 2 years as a Graduate member of IQSK by 30th October 2024.
  • Involvement in IQSK committees / YQSF.
  • Must have demonstrated a high level of competence and dedication in their work or internships.
  • Should have actively participated in IQSK programs or events that promote the profession.
  • Show potential for future leadership and professional advancement within the industry.

d.   Outstanding QS Award – Technicians

This award recognizes a Technician member who has shown excellence in technical and practical aspects of Quantity Surveying.

  • Minimum of 3 years as a Technician member of IQSK by 30th October 2024.
  • Must have demonstrated technical proficiency in project work or related Quantity Surveying tasks under supervision.
  • Must show evidence for continuous professional growth and learning.
  • Should have actively participated in IQSK programs or events that promote the profession.

e.   Outstanding QS Award – Students

This award recognizes a student member who has shown exemplary performance and commitment to the profession while still pursuing studies.

  • Minimum of 1 year as a Student member of IQSK by 30th October 2024.
  • Must have excelled academically in Quantity Surveying studies.
  • Demonstrated active participation in IQSK student activities, committees, seminars, or mentorship programs.
  • Should show leadership and engagement in school-related activities or Quantity Surveying societies.


3. INNOVATIONS AWARD

This award aims to honour a Quantity Surveyor or a Quantity Surveying Firm who has pushed the boundaries of the profession by adopting innovative technologies or methodologies that improve practice, development, and service delivery.

  • Must have integrated innovative technology such as AI, BIM, or sustainable construction practices in their work to enhance Quantity Surveying services.
  • Exhibited leadership and advocacy in driving forward new ideas that positively impact the construction industry and the environment.
  • Should have actively participated in IQSK programs or events that promote the profession.
  • Showcased a track record of applying sustainable practices in their work to minimize environmental impact.


4. QUANTITY SURVEYING FIRM AWARD

This award recognizes a Quantity Surveying firm that has demonstrated excellence in service delivery, innovation, and contribution to the growth of the profession.

  • Must have a track record of high-quality service delivery on impactful projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership in innovation, integrating new technologies or practices in QS services.
  • Engaged in mentorship and training within the firm, creating opportunities for young QS professionals.
  • Actively participated in IQSK initiatives and supported industry growth through leadership, seminars, or research contributions.


5. ACADEMIC/TEACHING/RESEARCH AWARD

This award will recognize members who have offered outstanding training to QS courses or firms/individuals that have carried out research contributing to the profession’s advancement.

  • Exemplary contributions to teaching Quantity Surveying.
  • Research outputs that have significantly contributed to knowledge in the QS profession, with published papers, books, or innovative practices.
  • Have actively participated in developing new course materials or industry standards that improve professional training.
  • Recognized for mentoring and guiding students or young professionals toward career advancement in the QS field.
  • Should have actively participated in IQSK programs or events that promote the profession


6. ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION (ADR) AWARD

This award recognizes a Quantity Surveyor who has excelled in ADR including Arbitration, Adjudication and Mediation within the construction industry.

  • Must be listed in the IQSK Panel of Arbitrators and must be in good standing.
  • Must have extensive experience as an arbitrator, adjudicator or mediator in construction-related disputes.
  • Demonstrated a track record of impartiality and effective resolutions in complex disputes.
  • Recognized for their deep knowledge of the law, contracts, and QS practice related to dispute resolution.
  • Exhibited leadership in promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods within the profession.


7. QUANTITY SURVEYORS IN OTHER SECTORS/REGIONS AWARD

This award honours Quantity Surveyors who have excelled in non-traditional sectors or regions, contributing to the diversification and expansion of the QS practice.

  • Must have demonstrated excellence in sectors beyond building construction, such as oil & gas, infrastructure, banking, real estate, international projects, Law.
  • Proven impact on advancing the role of QS in regions where the profession is less established.
  • Actively engaged in promoting Quantity Surveying in emerging markets or sectors through advocacy or professional engagement.


8. QS ADVOCACY AWARD

This award is designed to reward individuals or organizations that actively engage with and endorse the role of the Quantity Surveyor in the construction and related industries.

  • Have advocated for the importance of Quantity Surveying within their work or public platforms.
  • Recognized for promoting the QS profession to clients, stakeholders, or the public in a manner that elevates the role of QS in construction and development.
  • Actively engaged in public policy, legislation or initiatives that promote or advance the interests of QS professionals.
  • Creating awareness about the significance of QS services and the impact of professional standards.
  • Should have actively participated in IQSK programs or events that promote the profession.


9. PUBLIC SECTOR QS AWARD

This award recognizes Quantity Surveyors working in the public sector who have demonstrated excellence in service delivery and policy implementation.

  • Must have worked in the public sector for not less than 5 years.
  • Must have exemplified professionalism and efficiency in handling public sector projects or initiatives.
  • Contributed to the advancement of the QS role within public institutions, infrastructure projects, or public policy.
  • Demonstrated a commitment to upholding transparency and ethical standards in public procurement or QS practices.
  • Engaged in improving processes within the public sector, contributing to the overall efficiency and success of government-led projects.
  • Should have actively participated in IQSK programs or events that promote the profession.
